Opening České Velenice - České Budějovice Line Electrification

A new project of České Velenice – České Budějovice line electrification, 1st stage was ceremonialy opened in the Gomel hotel in České Budějovice on November 8th, 2006. The aim of this project is the improvment of the railway transport between Czech Republic and Austria. After finishing the construction electrified sections between České Budějovice and state border (Gmünd) will be connected.

The project is divided into three parts:

1. Line electrification - realized by EŽ Praha a.s.
2. Remote cabling and interlocking modification - realized by EŽ Praha a.s. with sub-supplier AŽD Praha s.r.o.
3. Track works - realized by EŽ Praha a.s. with sub-suppliers

The electrification involves a single track section between  České Velenice railway station and contact line sectioning point at České Budějovice railway station (49,2 km, unrolled length of the contact line will be 53,546 km). AC system Assembly „S“ (25 kV, 50 Hz) will be installed. 3740 m3 of concrete will be poured and 1094 traction masts will be erected.
New switching stations at České Budějovice and Borovany railway stations will be built for supplying the line. Remote control of isolators and the switching station will be placed at the control station in České Budějovice. The stations will be provided with the equipment for electrical heating of points (switches), heavy current distributions and lighting at stations and stops will be reconstructed ( 4 stations, 6 stops).

New electronic interlocking equipment ESA 11 will be installed, all stations will be provided with new electronic signal boxes controled from the centre in České Budějovice, small transmission system, small telephone switchboards and small telephone wiring board, electronic fire system and electronic interlocking system.
